Why was I wrong?
Every join to order_items multiplies each order row by its line-item count — one order with 3 items becomes 3 rows.
SUM(o.amount) then adds that same order total 3 times, inflating revenue. Since order_items isn't needed here, drop that join entirely.
Rule of thumb: before you trust a join, ask what grain each table adds — and whether you actually need it.
