The renewal deadline falls on the last day of the licensee's birth month every two years. Licensees receive renewal notices approximately 90 days before expiration, but responsibility for timely renewal rests with the licensee — failure to receive a notice is not an excuse for late renewal. To renew, a salesperson must: (1) complete 12 hours of Board-approved continuing education during the renewal cycle; (2) pay the renewal fee; and (3) submit the renewal application online. The current two-year renewal fee for salespersons is set by the Board and subject to change by regulation. The 12 continuing education hours required for salesperson renewal must be earned from Board-approved CE providers. The Board mandates specific subjects within the 12 hours, including fair housing law (a recurring priority topic) and agency law (particularly mandatory buyer agency disclosure, dual agency consent, and designated agency concepts). Additional elective CE topics approved by the Board include property management, environmental issues, technology in real estate, commercial real estate, mortgage financing, and ethics. Online CE is permitted if the course provider and format are Board-approved. Licensees must retain certificates of completion for audit purposes for three years.
